junk, plums and an old sleeping bag

my neighbour admired this 25 year old pattern when I washed and hung this old sleeping bag out to dry

soft plums get eaten first and are sweetest

fmore than enough for the next three days

in my double shed to the right

and to the left -- I remember that 12 years ago 5 families shared each of these outside toilets from 1890

the wood I need has been there 10 years and is at the back

the two beech wood rollers with cast iron cogs are from a dis-assembled cast iron framed mangle which was also used by an artist for print making from linocuts, wood cuts and etchinmgs

out on the pavement

and packed in again in Brumleby, Copenhagen

The old lumber in my bathroom is ready to be cut down, and I am going to use the broken iron framed chairs as the basis of a new garden seat

birthday

I enjoyed this so much that as well as posting on SNAPS 3
I exceptionally post this snapshot here too

big sunflowers are better than the short stemmed commercial varities

Dahlias remind me of my maternal grandfather Alfed Thomas LAPHAM, who used to grow them at Grey West, Marsh Common, Pilning, Gloucestersgire
and sell them to passing motorists from a bucket by his garden gate

if this blog seems dead

I have to spell the text letter by letter because I am not an SMS user so SNAPS 3 is terse
I usually limit myself to one picture each day and the blog is set to show 3 posts so it is adapted to a mobile phone's browser

I have changed my ISP again and it may take a couple of days to get the new connection working
all my email has a web mail facility so I can use any old computer at a libray or web cafe to answer my correspondents

more experiments

In the morning I went to Rigsarkivet the Danish National Archives

the lighting set up
and the file about a divorce in 1903 to 1908 which I had ordered last week was ready for me.

I used the Sony Ericxsson K800i instead of my notebook
below a small selectition of the documents

a true copy of a report of a meeting in the Overpræsidium sent to Justitsministriet
There is more in Landsarkivet for Sjælland, Lolland-Falster og Bornholm
both a register and a file which had the number of this Justice Ministry file.

much later in the evening back at Brumleby I decided to experiment with and without the built in flash

with gamma correction made in Mac OS Preview 3.0.7 and taken by very weak light overspill from Parken the danish national football stadium

ambient light only

the marrow is growing well
unretouched
it was too dark to see the composition of the picture, but the camera illuminates closer objects with a weak red light before taking the snap shot

EU-standarderne: DS/EN 1176 & 1177 from 1991

these stones brought here by glacier 20 000 years ago from Norway
take up too much space and are a risk to falling childrens' teeth and bones

the eye

slangemøbel - serpent
"Stone serpent.
Seating and play space.
Unhewn stone, some places cut and polished by www.rudilarsen.dk
Brumleby, Copenhagen. Inaugurated 1996."
A playground beneath the lime trees, the stones are glacial erratics,
mostly granites from Sweden and Norway, found in the underlying boulder clays, when the new water pipes and sewers were laid.
and they were sculpted by Helle Vibeke Steffensen a citizen of Christiania.

a proposal to take about one third of this lawn for more play space LEGEPLADS was firmly opposed

I suggested that the stone snake be sold at an art auction - and this will be looked at - if it appeals to a wealthy collector (or two or three) in Japan for example, the money could be used to pay for better equipment for the children.

Bernard Reder 1897-1963 "bernard reder" - Google Image Search
from Rumania he studied for three years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. The next seven years he made a living carving cemetery monuments and creating his stone sculptures on the side in his hometown of Czernowitz. In 1930 he moved to Prague because of anti-Semitic demonstrations. In 1935 Reder had his first solo exhibition at the gallery of Manes, an association of artists in Prague. Two years later he moved to France and lived near the sculptor Maillol who befriended him. He exhibited at the Wildenstein Gallery in Paris in 1940 but had to flee Paris; all the works in his studio were later destroyed by the Germans.

He traveled to Spain and then Havana, Cuba in 1941. Reder worked on woodcuts and drawings at this time. He arrived in New York in 1943, acquired a Guggenheim fellowship, was shown regularly at the Whitney Museum and was shown at the Philadelphia Museum in 1949.

Reder's bronze works have included musical subjects, and biblical and religious figures based on Jewish traditions. In 1960 Reder received a Ford Foundation grant and in 1962 was awarded membership in the Academy of Arts and Letters. In 1961 he was given a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum and for the first time in its history the museum devoted three of its floors to a single artist. Reder's works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Jewish Museum in New York City; the National Gallery, Washington, D.C. and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
