Urban Fusion Eastside Light Festival: "The main theme of the Urban Fusion Eastside Light Festival, which runs from 10-26 February is 'Celebrating the Past; Sustaining the Future '.

Eastside, Birmingham's largest regeneration project, was chosen by the European Lighting Designers' Association (ELDA+) to host the festival because of its rich heritage of industrial buildings and surroundings .

The festival was preceded by a series of workshops in Birmingham run by ELDA, their first in the UK. The workshops were headed by six internationally renowned designers. The workshop technical co-ordinator was Martin Lupton of Building Design Partnership Lighting from London.

Birmingham City Council is supporting the Urban Fusion Eastside Light Festival because it believes that improved urban lighting schemes contribute to an improved environment for citizens and visitors. Urban Fusion is the two year programme of events featuring a diverse range of arts and performance, focusing on the physical regeneration of Birmingham and the region's living environment."
